At China Basin, we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact, and we strictly adhere to the sustainability standards outlined in our Environmental Management Plan and Sustainable Procurement Policy.

China Basin’s Environmental Management Plan is designed to assist the building’s management, tenants, and staff in making informed decisions to lower resource use, minimize operating costs, and better preserve the environment. Environmental best practices can be accessed by employees at any time through our digital Touchsource boards, located in each lobby. Our Property Manager is responsible for reporting on the Environmental Management Policy and keeping track of objectives and targets.

Building management also monitors energy, water, and waste consumption in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and identifies areas for improvement. LORD Green has introduced a variety of environmentally-oriented targets for the building, including reducing energy consumption by 5% by 2025, water consumption by 3%, and waste production by 3%, as well as commitments to maintain a 100% waste diversion rate, to continue improving and preventing pollution, to comply with applicable legal requirements and requirements which relate to an organization’s specific environmental aspects, and to meet Sustainable Procurement Policy goals by 2022.

With continuous annual ENERGY STAR certifications and a current score of 98, we are committed to minimizing China Basin’s ecological footprint. These target percentages reflect the building’s high ENERGY STAR baseline score and provide a way to ensure we are continually striving for new levels of excellence.

In order to reduce the environmental impacts of goods and materials acquired by building management, China Basin follows a Sustainable Procurement Policy. This policy is designed to facilitate building staff to make informed decisions aimed at lowering operating costs and preserving the environment for generations to come.

The Sustainable Procurement Policy covers metrics and standards for products, materials, and services purchased by the building. Ongoing consumables, durable goods, lamps, cleaning products, timber or timber-based products, and materials purchased for building maintenance and renovation must meet sustainability criteria. Building management evaluates purchasing activity on a quarterly basis to evaluate progress toward the implementation goals and determines whether policy or purchasing process updates are necessary.
